Things from the day

Monday 22 July

One of my housemates has been memorising an Emily Dickinson poem—“Hope” is the thing with feathers—because, as she put it, she wants to have beautiful things living inside her.

Tuesday 23 July

In the face of little regrets—say, staying up too late instead of getting an early night—I’m trying to accept rather than admonish the part of me that wanted to do something.

Wednesday 24 July

Sometimes I just don’t know how to get a grasp on the day.

Thursday 25 July

I’m getting back into running. Yesterday I wanted to complete 5km at a steady pace, but only managed 1km. Today, I run for three minutes and rested for one minute, and managed almost 4km. When we rest, we go further.

I’m always caught between wanting to give my ambitions my all, and just living a quiet, pleasant life.
