I was thinking about how this practice is really about learning to take something with you from the day, even if it seems insignificant.
Some days it’s hard to find anything. Then I spot a man in bright orange, smiling and lifting up his shirt after a run, feeling the tautness of his stomach, the endorphins, the gladness. You didn’t run today, but you know that same feeling. You can take that reminder with you. There is always something if you look for it.

Discover the delightful term ‘elevenses’ to describe having morning tea at around 11am.
Wednesday 15 March
A gym receptionist spots my searching eyes and to be helpful she describes how to use the lockers I’ve used dozens of times. “I realise that” I say, and it comes out too curt but she exits the changing rooms before I can pad out my response with kindness. I wish I said, “Thank you, I realise that, but I’m picky and want one of those coveted middle ones” with a playful, self-deprecating tone.
