I've missed Things from the Day! It's a treat to read two months' worth in one go. I admire how you find magic and beauty in everything. Thanks for sharing, and congrats on the new newsletter name! What fantastic photos, too x
This was really delightful. That's how I try to live too - for the days, and it's gratifying to read you articulating it so well, and to remember just how much is out there in the world to experience, see, overhear, in a single day.
I also felt some kind of pang reading this, like "I do this kind of journalling, why don't I have a substack/I should be doing this too". And then the woman with her quilts came in to remind me - not everything has to be documented. Sometimes it's enough to just be, to feel, to write - even just for yourself.
Thanks for sharing. And all the best for your friend, who sounds like the most resilient, magnanimous person.
I didn't expect it going in, but this was exactly what I needed - specifically the comment from your date about saying what he's thinking because someone may need to hear it. The past few months I've been trying to curb myself, to stop from making kneejerk "I liked your blog post!" comments because really what's the point. But maybe, just maybe, one day my "hey I liked your post" comment will be just what someone needs to hear. So anyway, I really liked this post. I even thought as I got to the extended Daily Things section that there'd be too many and I'd just skip them after reading one or two. But I kept going and started appreciating each one and started thinking I need to start microjournaling like that and, well, thank you, Madeleine. I liked your post!
Appreciate your kind words here too, Neil— chuffed you were inspired to keep reading. I'll be sharing more about my writing process for the daily things in coming months, so stay tuned 💙
I've listened to that same Mo Gawdat episode over and over.
I'm LIVING for these new pics and designs! I love your daily thoughts, so real and wise. Happy to see you embracing a new direction, it's a reminder to me that I can do the same.
Me toooo — isn't it filled with gems? Really the best advice for heartbreak I ever did hear. Thank you for the kind words too — excited to see what new directions you head in (or ones you revisit)! 💙
lovely!

Beautifully put Daniela, here's to the days and all the living within them!
Glad the woman and her quilts served as such a beautiful reminder. It is often more than enough to just be in the process, isn't it?
